Everything on Meridian that works differently from a normal Towny server, in one list. Each section links to its full guide. Commands are shown like /this.

Sieges & war

How war works on Meridian. Full guides: Sieges and Combat & PvP.

  • Siege spawnsDefending mayors, attacking nation leaders and generals can set a spawn point for their side with /siegetp setspawn <town>. Everyone on that side (or allied to it) can then use /siegetp tp <town>: stand still for 5 seconds, and you arrive with 10 seconds of protection. You can't attack during that time.
  • Happy Ghast squadsRiding a Happy Ghast? /siegetp ghasttp <town> flies you and your whole crew to your side's spawn, and /siegetp ghasthome takes you back to your town. Everyone on board must be on the same side.
  • Military ranksNations have ranks from private up to general. Generals can start and run sieges, set siege spawns and promote soldiers.
  • HonorWar ranks have to be earned: you gain a point of honor for every day you play while in the same nation, and need 3 before you can hold any military rank. Leaving the nation resets it. Check yours with /honor. See Sieges.
  • Bystanders stay outIf you're on neither side of a siege, you can't place TNT in the siege zone. During battle sessions you also can't fight, shoot bows or throw splash potions there.
  • No escape tricksIn a siege zone, Totems of Undying don't work, chorus fruit won't teleport you, and teleport commands like /home and /tpa are blocked.
  • Keep your gear in battleWhile a battle session is running, you keep your inventory when you die.
  • No town hoppingWhile your nation is under siege, you can't leave your town to join a different town in the same nation.
  • World TensionEvery siege raises World Tension by 5% for 14 days. At 50%, capitals can't be peaceful; at 75%, no town can. Check it with /msiege worldtension.
  • War hornA war horn sounds for everyone in a siege zone the moment a battle session starts.
  • Siege statsEvery kill, death, banner capture and more is recorded for each siege. See yours with /siegestats profile, or browse every war on the stats website.
  • Peaceful townsMembers of peaceful towns can't hold military ranks. Peaceful towns that go bankrupt, or whose residents have all been away for 14 days, lose their peaceful status.
  • ReportersStaff-approved reporters can use /reportermode to cover sieges safely: they glow, can't fight and can visit either side.

Staying alive

  • New player protectionFor your first hour of play, mobs can't hurt you. The timer only counts while you're online.
  • Spawn protectionAfter /t spawn, /n spawn or respawning, you keep your items if you die before travelling 8 chunks. Hide the countdown with /protection hide.
  • Border protectionDie in the wilderness within 4 chunks of a town (outside siege zones) and you keep your items. Camping town borders doesn't pay.
  • Combat tagHitting or being hit by a player tags you for 45 seconds. While tagged, logging out kills you, town claims won't protect you, and most commands are blocked.
  • Fair fightsPearls, golden apples and knockback have cooldowns, shields stay disabled for 8 seconds when broken, end crystals and maces can't be crafted, and flaming arrows defuse TNT minecarts. See Combat & PvP.
  • No pearl stasisEnder pearls can't be parked in stasis chambers for later teleports.
  • ProtectionMore on staying safe: Staying safe.
  • Loot lockValuable drops (tools, weapons, armour, gold, netherite, shulker boxes) belong to one player for 2 seconds after they hit the ground: what you mine and what you drop yourself is yours, and a killed player's drops belong to their killer. No more loot snipers. Turn it off for your own drops in /prefs.

Getting around

  • Full guidePorts, spawns, rails, flight and maps: Getting around.
  • PortsTowns can open a port with /t set port spawn and set a fee with /t set port price. Travel with /t port <town>. See all ports with /t port list. Fees default to 10 gold. There's a 10-second warm-up, a 60-second cooldown, and enemies can't use your port.
  • Fast railsPut a powered rail on top of a redstone block and minecarts travel at 4× speed.
  • Real-world coordinates/getlocation tells you where you are on the real Earth (with a Google Maps link). /coordinate <latitude> <longitude> finds any real place in game, e.g. /coordinate 48.85 2.35 for Paris.
  • Instant carts and boatsStanding on a rail? /cart puts you straight into a minecart. On water or ice, /boat does the same with a boat. It disappears when you get out, so there's nothing to pick up. A supporter perk.
  • Town flight/tfly lets you fly inside your own town. It costs gold for every minute you're in the air, taken from your inventory; if you run out, you float gently down. Flight turns off when you leave your town's land, get into a fight, or enter a siege zone. A supporter perk.
  • Town spawn/t spawn takes you to your town's spawn point for 1 gold (paid to your town). You can also spawn to other towns in your nation for 3 gold. There's a short cooldown, and it doesn't work while you're in combat.
  • How far?/distance <town> shows how far a town is from you, and /distance <town> <town> the distance between two towns, in blocks, chunks and real-life kilometres.
  • The NetherThe Nether is 8× smaller than the overworld and its border lines up with the map, so every portal leads somewhere on Earth. Beds don't explode there (you just can't sleep), and blaze spawners can't be broken.

  • Gold is moneyThe currency is gold: ingots count as 1 and blocks as 9. Check yours with /bal.
  • Chest shopsSell or buy anything with chest shops. See the shop guide.
  • Town vaults/tv opens shared storage for your whole town. The mayor can unlock more vaults and extra rows, paid from the town bank.

  • Mayor successionIf a mayor is away for 30 days, the town passes to an active assistant, or failing that the longest-standing active resident.
  • NationsAllies, enemies, ranks and nation levels: Nations & diplomacy.
  • Inactive townsA town where nobody has played for 30 days falls into ruin if it's small, or goes up for sale if it's bigger. See Towns & camps.

  • BrewingBrew beer, wine, whiskey and more in cauldrons and age them in barrels. See Brewing.

  • Quick concreteRight-click a water cauldron with concrete powder to turn the whole stack into concrete. It uses one level of water.
  • Copper and goldFortune gives a lot more Raw Copper than normal, but much less extra Raw Gold, because gold is money. See Loot changes.
  • Silk Touch spawnersMine a spawner with a Silk Touch pickaxe and there's a 50% chance you get it (otherwise it shatters). A spawner you've placed yourself can always be picked up again. Nether spawners can't be picked up, and blaze spawners can't be broken at all.
  • Cheaper carpetsOne wool block makes 3 carpets (normally it takes 2 wool). See Changed recipes.
  • No respawn anchorsRespawn anchors can't be crafted, placed or charged. See Disabled items.
  • Farm limitsEach chunk holds up to 24 of one animal (32 chickens, 30 villagers, 6 iron golems). Past that, breeding and spawning stop and extra animals are cleared away. Villagers, and named, tamed, leashed or ridden animals, are never removed.
  • RedstoneRedstone runs on a faster engine to keep the server smooth. Almost everything works as normal; a few contraptions that depend on exact update order may behave differently.

  • Map artMade a map painting? Lock it with /mapart lock (75 gold) so nobody else can copy it, and your name shows under it in item frames. Only the owner can unlock it again (/mapart unlock, 30 gold). /mapart name <name> and /mapart credit <name> name the painting and its artist, /mapart verify checks whose it is, and /mapart menu opens the settings. Nobody else can break an item frame holding a locked map.
  • Voice chatTalk to players near you. Install the Simple Voice Chat mod (Fabric, Forge, NeoForge or Quilt) and it connects by itself. Press V for its settings and groups.
